Lake Simcoe Arms ~ History (updated July 2005)
Jackson's Point became a very popular playground for tourists &
cottagers in 1877 when boarding houses, private cottages,
campgrounds & hotels opened up along the accessible lakefront,
leading to its development of "Ontario's first cottage country."
One such hotel was Simkincoe House now known as Lake Simcoe
Arms, Pub & Restaurant.
Sitting near the shores of Lake Simcoe this Victorian building
dating back to the 1800's was purchased in February 2000 by
father & son team, Gordon & Gregory Josie. In April 2000 they
welcomed a new partner, Mike Cenic, as Director of Food &
Beverage.
In May 2000, after extensive renovations they re-opened it as
the Lake Simcoe Arms, Pub & Restaurant.
Elder Gordon Josie noted one main reason for acquiring the
property. The veteran restaurateur says the building, with its
proximity to the lake, was ideal for a casual family dining
house in the warmth of a British pub.
In August 2003 Gregory Josie left the company to pursue other
interests while Gordon Josie, Diane Josie & Mike Cenic remain as
partners. With numerous years
of experience in the Food & Hospitality Industry they make a
strong & dedicated team.
The 4,000 square foot restaurant is, in every sense a warm
atmosphere for casual family dining. This includes the bar with
its stained glass bulkhead & deep mahogany finish. There is a
fabulous patio complete with fully retractable awning & radiant
heat to enhance their outdoor dining guests' experience.
The restaurant features both Pub & Traditional fare & cheque
average is approximately $12.00 for lunch & $19.00 for dinner.
It specializes in Prime Rib, Steaks & Seafood, daily specials
which are complemented with a large selection of Canadian &
Imported Draught beers, Single Malt Scotches & a Wine list. Pub
specialties such as shepherds pie, steak & kidney pie, fish 'n
chips, & bangers n' mash are popular with guests looking for
that "taste of Britain". Seasonal guests as well as others on
strict timelines enjoy their fast takeout service. Basically,
the Lake Simcoe Arms appeals to all ages groups, from seniors to
toddlers, by offering great food at very affordable prices
accompanied with excellent service.
